4 out of 5 stars A bit of effort initially, but ultimately worth it   April 6, 2009
Stevie Blaze (Austin, TX)
I purchased this item as a gift for someone months ago (they raved about the toilets in Japan...) but they didn't want to use it. I finally got around to installing it at my own place recently....

I'd read the reviews mentioning difficulty with the supplied t-connector, so I was liberal with the teflon tape. Not liberal enough, apparently. I had to take it all apart and put on what I felt to be a ridiculous amount of teflon tape.. and it still had a leak. I tightened the T-connector to the water main even harder... and even harder still. Eventually I got a rubbery squeaking noise as if the water main valve had finally made firm contact with the washer in the T-connector. It finally stopped leaking, just before any more torque on the thing would have ripped the water main from the wall (only a slight exaggeration). I've never had to torque any plumbing connection this hard to get a seal! So yes, the advice to get a new T-connector before you even start is probably quite wise. If I ever move from here, I'm for sure taking the bidet with me - but next time I'll use a third-party T-connector.

The connections for the water supply line between the T-connector and the bidet seem to defy logic - I don't know how they don't leak, but they don't. Quite ironic how those don't leak despite feeling so wimpy and wiggly, when thinking about the effort involved making the T-connector not leak at its juncture with the water main valve.

So what about the product itself? Now I know why my friend was so excited about the toilets in Japan... such a simple thing... making such a big difference. It works exactly as intended. Indeed, the stream can be a bit harsh - go easy on that dial! Like using a sonic toothbrush, it probably takes some getting used to.

My only design gripe is that the control-panel is so obviously a downgrade from a fancier version - there's a big metal button where another dial or control would be. Thusly it comes across that the control panel is a lot bigger than it needs to be, it would be nice if it was downsized or streamlined.

An unexpected plus - the label on my control panel is a very light gray, not bright orange/red as shown in the pictures. I think mine looks a lot better, and less obtrusive. It's already obvious enough that there is "some crazy gadget" connected to my toilet - I'm grateful that there are, by luck, no bright colors involved.

Great product so far. Only thing to be careful is to make sure the rubber seals are in place and tighten the connection till there is no leak. I had a older valve on the wall so I had to cut the copper pipe and got a new valve from the local store ($6) with compression joint. Slid the new valve on the copper pipe and tighetened it really good so that the compression joint does not slide off and there is no leak. After that everything which came with the product fit fine on the valve.

5 out of 5 stars Great product, provided you use lots of teflon   September 17, 2008

As has been noted, it leaks unless you use a lot of teflon or some kind of plumbing tape (like I did). Very easy to install. Adjustable positioning. And a far more powerful stream than you'd ever need (so be very easy on the pressure dial the first time you use it). Everything I'd hoped it would be.

5 out of 5 stars easy to install, easy to use   August 17, 2008

I received this bidet and installed it in less then an hour. I'm not a very handman-type person, but I was able to do it with a screwdriver, adjustable wrench, and some teflon tape. It took a little work for me to get it installed so their was no water leaking at the T joint they provided, but after a little tightening up, it was leak free.

I was worried that a cold water flow might be too jolting, but it was actually just right. The water stream is adjustable, and can get pretty intense. We haven't used it much yet, but so far it is just what I was looking for.
